The Importance of Hands in Communication (Part Two)

Not quite sure where to look or what to observe in nonverbal communication? This short text will help you better understand The importance of hands in communication

Did you know:

Beyond firmness, there are 14 things to observe in a handshake…

Hands clenched into fists on a black table, man in a black jacket and striped tie

I am visibly stressed…

When stress sets in, the hands show it very explicitly. The hands and limbs pull in; hands that were relaxed become tense and draw back. Like animals (turtles, for example), a person under stress withdraws into themselves.

I am open and willing to take part…

You are dealing with a very open-minded person. This position is certainly one of the most positive and also, unfortunately, one of the rarest! This person wants to work with you. The body clearly shows you that there is no stress and no barrier, and that this person has nothing to hide.

I am the one who knows, I am the authority on the subject

This hand position is often seen in politicians, doctors and judges, and sometimes in some financial advisors. When you notice it in someone close to you, know that they (unconsciously) consider themselves an expert in the field.

Let’s work together, that is what I want…

A very positive gesture, a gesture of openness full of goodwill. The person builds a direct path between you and them. They open a road of collaboration between the two of you, and that is what they are telling you: openness.
